Quilts and Artwork

In addition to the information below, please see these posts for more about my specific process and thoughts on quilt photography.

Full Shot

Scheduled Shoots

I schedule quilt shoots once a month, so I can spend a day shooting just quilts, and do all of the image prep at once. If you can wait to have your quilt photographed until I can fit it into a scheduled shoot, I can charge you a lot less.

Standard quilt rates apply only for regularly scheduled shoots. Hourly rates apply for unscheduled or rush shoots. If you happen to need a large number of quilts photographed, I will usually be able to charge you the standard rate.

Quilts larger than 125″ by special arrangement. Contact me for more info.

Pickup and delivery charges for Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties only, and are also only for regularly scheduled shoots. Special arrangements or shipping arrangements can be made.

Most shoots do not require rental equipment, but particular shoots may need them. Any fees will be disclosed in advance of the shoot. Additional prints, CDs, or master files available separately.

Quilt Standard Services Include:

  • Photography during regularly scheduled shoot.
  • Preparation of full quilt image (one side) and two vignette and two detail images, plus vignette of backing. (6 master images total)
  • CD of above images, including full size images for printing, and smaller images for e-mailing, etc.

Detail 1Generally I will just send you a CD with all of the images from your shoot, which will include at a minimum the above shots. As it is hard for me to tell what is important to you about your quilt, I’ll often shoot as many as 30 images of your quilt. From these, you can select which images you will want as prints. Small quilts, or quilts without much detail will often need fewer shots, so I only promise 6 images of each quilt.

Hourly Rate

Hourly Rate is billed for time in studio and one-way travel if the shoot is more than 30 minutes from Alameda. The Hourly Rate includes basic image prep for online proofing. For quilts and artworks, I include Standard Services in the Hourly Rate. For other photography, only digital proofs are provided.

Quilt Shots

It helps to have a common vocabulary to talk about what sort of photos I’m taking:
Full Image: full image of quilt, with grey border.
Vignette: A closer image, typically shows sewing and fabric details, but larger than a single block.
Detail: Usually a single quilt block, or closer if requested. This shows the quality of construction and fabric texture.

Artwork

I do both copy photography of flat art, as well as portfolio and sales images for sculpture. As this work varies greatly in requirements, please contact me with your exact needs for a quote.
