Last night I covered the EBNOM/KCAP Halloween Party at the Alameda O’Club. It was a grand time. Click here for the gallery.
Cool, some praise:
I just finished savoring all 458 fotos of the Halloween party, and may I say that is one of the best documented events I’ve seen done on “film”. I would mention the two outside on the patio looking in shots as being amongst my favorites, and the down low to the floor shots, and the movement shots as standing out from the overall enjoyment. Thank you very much for sharing your time and energy…
And a little more:
iergh….you scruvy doog!
Your eye, hand, technology, and photographs are beautiful!
Thank you!

One of the last times I was in New York was basically photowalking around with a friend and maybe a dozen rolls of black and white film. We just wandered. I hadn’t spent a lot of time in the city, and he had grown up here. That, and I had, 6 weeks earlier, had my appendix out and needed to do a lot of walking to build up muscle strength again. Wandering around yesterday, I managed to catch a few photos of places I had been before. Here’s a pair, showing the remodeling effort at the Battery Maritime Building near Southport:

I’m in New York this week, just touristing around. As I get a chance, I’m uploading photos to my zenfolio gallery.

This is very cool, and if anyone is going to be in Pittsburgh through November 11th (I know– that’s soon) you should totally check this exhibit out. I’m on the road right now, but when I return I will be posting a few more photos & such. And because of its popularity, you need to buy tickets in advance.

Mr. TANBI sent me an e-mail this evening with a brilliant idea for a service essentially saving blogs to DVD. The idea is that with any blogging service, particularly hosted ones like Blogger or Livejournal, there’s no easy way to archive your ENTIRE site.
Well, now there is. I’m currently beta testing a system to download and convert an entire blog site to a locally browsable form, and then burn that form to a DVD or CD, and mail you the CD. The current system includes all media except for youtube-embedded videos and ajax iframes. Both of those will be added in a later revision. Not all the bugs are quite worked out yet, but I think I have something testable.
Drop me a line at photo at benpeoples dot com, and I’ll put together a list of sites to test out, also let me know how much you feel the service would be worth to you (I have some ideas for pricing, but let me know what you think).
I’ll also be out of town from tomorrow through next weekend, so I won’t be able to start archiving any sites until after that (sorry!).

I took the Zenfolio plunge this week, and many of my images are over there now. While I will continue to use Flickr for the social networking aspects, I will be moving image hosting and galleries to Zenfolio. Check it out. If you decide to use Zenfolio, you get $5 if you use this code: N6S-VTB-QXY
They will shortly be rolling out “custom pricing” for prints and projects– meaning you can charge a markup like cafepress on print orders. I’m excited.

Johnathan Haeber writes a really interesting blog called Bearings. It’s low volume, but always high quality, and always interesting to read. Today, he collected a bunch of San Francisco area photographers that he enjoys. An excellent read and the photographers good for hours upon hours of fascinated clicking.

I removed the IR filter from my Canon A300 — I’m no longer using it as my primary KAP camera, so I thought I’d see how it did in infrared. This is with no filter– trees look very white, but the sky still blue (the sky has very little IR component– which is why with a strong IR-passing filter, the sky looks black).
Haven’t put it in the air (still doing some mods to it), but pretty cool so far!
