42 Words for Snow

Snowball Fight!

We’re currently up in Steamboat Springs, CO, hanging out for a week and playing in the snow. Neither of us ski much, so it’s been a weekend of sitting around drinking hot chocolate, playing cards, reading, listening to music, and walking around in the snow.

The snow up here has been described as champagne powder– super fine powder, perfect for skiing. Because it’s so cold, it makes terrible snow balls. The sun came out for a little yesterday, and Sarah was able to make a snowball stick together long enough to throw it at me.

I’m planning on working this into a lovely long article about what to do in Steamboat other than skiing, which will post around the time I get back. Also, of note, the whole 42-words-for-snow thing really isn’t true. But the Inuit language is really interesting nonetheless.

I’ve actually played that card game. Do you have expansion packs or something else that makes it not-boring after a while playing with the same two people?

I dunno, I find that the constantly changing rules cause you to have to keep changing your tactics in terms of attack/defense– that is, there are so many different attacks and ways to defend against attacks that you can kind of always keep it fresh.

Lunch money, on the other hand, is an excellent game to play–especially with a lot of people, less than 4 is not so exciting–for about 45 minutes, while drinking beer and winding down from work. I got hooked on it the summer I worked for The Production Studio in Louisville– “Kentucky’s Only Commercial Scene Shop!(tm)” But two people, or four people, for any longer gets a bit boring.

The 888# is currently voicemail only– It e-mails the voicemails to me. I could forward it to my cell phone or any phone really, or pick it up via a VOIP softphone or hardphone.

So it sounds like it was the person I was playing with who thought it was boring. I liked it, but eventually he wouldn’t play it anymore, even though it was his game. Maybe I should get it sometime to play with a new person.

I want to try Lunch Money, but I’ve never actually found it in the store (I tried Games by James and some comic book-type shops) to be able to play it.
