Some Tips January 4
A few tips for e-mailing out resumes:
- Please include a subject line. No subject line and an unrecognized name, particularly with attachments, usually ends up binned before it’s opened.
- When applying for a job that isn’t publicly posted, you might want mention who told you about it, even if that person isn`t a reference.
- Typography is important. I don’t want resumes to be creative, but I do want them to be attractive.
- I know it’s 2007 and so it’s completely okay to e-mail resumes, rather than sending them with stamps. But please e-mail them in a paper-like format– a word doc is sourcecode, a PDF is output. This distinction is very important in my line of work. Both of them.
Sorry for the rant, but I feel I shouldn’t e-mail this list to the person whose resume showed up in my inbox this morning. =)
And, to the newly-minted professional who e-mailed me, I`m still going to e-mail you tomorrow. Youth forgives much– I wouldn’t be where I were if every mistake I made killed opportunities.
